The "Number 6", as it's called locally in Colorado's Arkansas River Valley, is a very large onion with deep bronze-colored skin. Stores until early April and is resistant to thrips. It was developed from the Valencia onion by the Colorado State University Experiment Station in Rocky Ford and released in 1936. It has been the foundation variety for many modern yellow hybrid onions and is currently being studied for its high levels of anti-oxidants. Day-neutral. Plant spacing 8". 120 days.
