EVENT The Great Chile & Garlic Experience

This event is scheduled for Sunday Sept 8th, 2024 at our farm in McElmo Canyon and includes morning coffee with chile grits prior to a field walk that takes participants into the beautiful world of chiles on our farm. Participants will learn about seed-to-kitchen journeys for two of our favorite, and most likely healthiest horticultural crops, chiles and garlic. Tastings will extend the visual experience and will enable a deeper understanding of flavor and nutrition and how diversity in the field translates to diversity in the kitchen, people's diets, and human health. Participants will also be able to engage in, learn about, and taste roasted chiles, fire-baked sourdough flatbreads, and roasting garlic in mud balls. Chiles and garlic are some of the most significant cultural food crops with a deep and flavorful history from their centers of origin to the dispersion of world cuisines. This event will also provide reading resources for participants as well as chile seeds and fresh garlic to take home.  

Date: Sept 8, 2024

Time: 9-11am (with activities and chile roasting going on a bit longer with roasted chile purchasing possible after the event)

Preparation: Bring water, wear long pants and long sleeve shirt, hat, sunscreen, sun glasses. good walking shoes (closed toe, no flip flops!). Come with a good appetite!
